Prabhat Paribartanshil Samaj Dalit (Prabhat Children’s Orphanage) is a non-government organisation located in Sindurke Village, Sarangkot. The charity was first registered at the Chief District Office in Pokhara, Kaski in 2006 (Reg.No. 2246/066).

It is a not-for-profit social organisation set up to help underprivileged Dalit (low caste) children of Nepal and provide them with food, shelter, clothing and education.

The orphanage’s goal is to provide the children with an education and help them become good, honest and responsible citizens. It aims to help eliminate child poverty within Nepal and give needy children a better chance at a successful future.

Prabhat Children’s Orphanage was started by a local trekking guide, Kul Bahadur Nepali, who frequently came across families in remote mountain villages with children in dire need of support and care. Unable to turn a blind eye, Kul donated 50 per cent of his monthly salary to secure the lease on a small hillside house in Sarangkot, just outside Pokhara with a view to giving some of these children a chance at a better life.

There are currently 11 children being cared for at the orphanage – the gang – aged between 5 and 13. Some have lost their parents, others have come from families who simply couldn’t afford to look after them. But what they share is a zest for life, and a dream for a greater future.

Locations

The orphanage can be found approximately 5.5km from the Lakeside area of Pokhara. It can be reached in about one hour if walking, or about 15-20 minutes by scooter/taxi.
